The Every Can Counts rainbow installation has appeared in Williamson Square in Liverpool city centre ahead of the start of Recycle Week, 17th – 23rd October.

Every Can Counts UK has partnered with Liverpool BID Company to bring the colourful archway, made from over 2.500 recycled cans, to the city centre to raise awareness around the importance of recycling and inspire more people to recycle their empty drink cans.

According to Every Can Counts UK’s research, 72% of Liverpool residents say they are becoming more conscious of the environment and their impact on it. What’s more, nearly eight in 10 (79%) already think that recycling their household waste is ”very important”.

Amongst Liverpudlians, the biggest barriers to recycling are the lack of recycling bins in public places (cited by 43% of respondents) and confusion about what packaging is and isn’t recyclable (25%).

Chris Latham-Warde, Programme Manager for Every Can Counts UK, said: “Our rainbow installation has toured a number of cities across the UK and we’re thrilled to now bring it to Liverpool to mark Recycle Week. The archway will be on display in Williamson Square all week and we’re looking forward to seeing all the creative and fun photos people take with it.

The message behind the installation is that we can all make a difference by recycling our empty drink cans. Our research shows that a quarter of Liverpudlians are unsure what packaging is and isn’t recyclable. The good news is that when it comes to drink cans, it’s really straightforward! Aluminium is infinitely recyclable, and every recycled can could be back on a shop shelf as a brand new can in just 60 days. But this only happens when we play our part in the process and put our empty cans in the right bin. So we’re here to encourage people in Liverpool to recycle every single one of their empty cans, so that this valuable material stays in circulation.”

Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool BID Company, said: “Liverpool BID Company is committed to ensuring our city is always improving and we believe that sustainability, including recycling, is a big part of that and a habit we should all be making an effort to embrace.

“We’re pleased to be working with Every Can Counts on its wonderful rainbow can sculpture and have no doubt it will add a bit of colour to the city centre, while highlighting an important message.”

Passers-by have all week, until the evening of Friday 21st, to come and snap a picture with the installation and enter a social media photo competition for the chance to win a £150 Flannels gift card. For full prize draw details visit: www.everycancounts.co.uk/liverpool

Every Can Counts partners with popular hard seltzer brand White Claw

We are really excited to announce the new brand partnership between Every Can Counts Ireland and UK with the global hard seltzer brand, White Claw, to help inspire and encourage drink can recycling.

The partnership will see White Claw collaborate with our teams in Ireland and the UK, drink can manufacturers and the wider recycling industry to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and increase recycling rates across both the UK and Ireland.

As part of the partnership, White Claw will provide funding to our programme, with both brands working together to spread the message that drink cans are infinitely recyclable.

To mark the launch of the partnership in Ireland, our team provided recycling support at White Claw’s summer pop-up brand activation in Dublin, which ran in last month. A unique recycling cage installation in the shape of a ‘recycle swoosh’ allowed members of the public to see the progress of their recycling efforts throughout the day, while a can crusher beside the installation added an interactive element for those making their empty cans count.

White Claw will also be using our programme’s recycling bins at a number of upcoming sampling activities in the UK in order to make it easier for consumers to do the right thing with their empty cans.

Made with sparkling water, triple distilled spirit and a hint of natural flavour, White Claw Hard Seltzers are stocked in major retailers across the UK and Ireland.

Michael Dean, Head of Marketing at White Claw, said: “Being one of the most popular hard seltzer brands, it’s so important to us that each and every one of our drink cans sold in the UK and Ireland are recycled. With the support of Every Can Counts, we’re confident that we can do our bit to help inspire our customers to close the loop when it comes to empty cans.”

Róisín O’Brien, Every Can Counts Ireland programme manager, said: “We’re very excited to announce our latest partnership with White Claw. It’s great to see such a globally recognised brand taking steps to help raise awareness and encourage drink can recycling. Consumers are increasingly conscious of the environment and their impact on it, but there’s definitely more we can do with White Claw and the wider industry to drive positive change in the years to come.”

As a unique partnership formed between drink can manufacturers and the wider recycling industry, our programme’s vision is to reach a 100% recycling rate for drinks cans in Europe.

Last year saw record-highs for the UK’s recycling rates with more than four out of five drink cans sold in the country being recycled as nationwide lockdowns made it easier for people to recycle.

Ireland has one of the highest rates in Europe for aluminium drink can recycling and recovery, with 89% of cans sold in the country being recycled or recovered in 2019.

Let’s keep the cycle going!

While Ireland has one of the highest rates of aluminium drink can recycling in Europe, with 89% of cans in the country being recycled or recovered in 2019, there is still so much more we can do to reach 100%. One way is to collaborate with like-minded brands such as The Naked Collective, a carbon-neutral Irish startup that specialises in vegan, low-sugar vitamin drinks.

As the first-ever drinks brand partnership in Ireland for Every Can Counts, this collaboration aims to inspire and encourage more people to recycle their empty drink cans. Both partners will work together to spread the message that drink cans are endlessly recyclable, and at the same time The Naked Collective will provide funding to the Every Can Counts programme.

Founded in 2019 and based in County Kildare, The Naked Collective has designed drinks that meet the needs of both health and eco-conscious shoppers. Its first two product ranges, which recently launched in Ireland and the UK, include Mude and So.Beer – a range of vegan, natural sparkling beverages and non-alcoholic lagers. From sourcing its plant-friendly ingredients to recyclable and compostable packaging for its cans and boxes, sustainability is at the forefront of the brand. The partnership with Every Can Counts Ireland builds on its sustainability commitments and will help it achieve the goal of ensuring that 100% of its cans are recycled.

Niall Phelan, Co-Founder of The Naked Collective said: “From the ingredients we use to our processes and packaging, our aim as a brand is to make the world a healthier, better place. “We’re a purpose-led company and our decision to partner with Every Can Counts shows exactly that. The partnership is us doing our bit to increase recycling rates in Ireland.”

Róisín O’Brien, Every Can Counts Ireland Programme Manager, said: “We’re very excited to announce our first Irish drink brand partnership with The Naked Collective. ‘’The company fits so well with what we’re trying to achieve as we both have the same mission – to save precious energy and resources by ensuring every drink can is recycled. We’re looking forward to working with The Naked Collective over the next year to help raise awareness and inspire recycling throughout the nation.”

As the saying goes, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

Metal Never Dies

Metal Never Dies 2560 1280 adminEirini

Heavy metal and aluminium, as a metal, have one thing in common: they never die. They can live forever without ever losing their unique properties. Thus, they never lose value and they are here to stay. So, it’s not surprising that legendary Spanish rockstars including Tete Novoa from Saratoga, Óscar Sancho from Lujuria and Mariskal Romero from La Heavy, have joined forces in a very creative campaign with one clever message, that Metal Never Dies. Similarly to heavy metal, where generations of fans keep the cycle of music going, aluminium can also go on and on. Moreover, it’s a legendary material and shares a certain star quality among other packaging materials. Therefore its every bit is immortal, just like heavy metal and the legends behind it.

Metal Never Dies or #ElMetalnNuncaMuere is an initiative of our Spanish programme, Cada Lata Cuenta, in collaboration with MariskalRock that is aiming to raise awareness about the infinite recycling potential of metal drink cans in a fun way. Let’s rock!

With a social media campaign that shows different people recycling cans in various situations, our Austrian programme wants to raise awareness about can recycling and show the audience, how easy it is to recycle and do something good for the environment.

Therefore, Jede Dose zählt created several characters that represent our audience groups. Specifically young people, parents, teenagers, sportsmen and -women, and artists. Also, our Austrian programme let short video sequences and funny slogans speak for themselves. For example: The basketball player says: “Recycling is like basketball: every throw is a direct hit!” or the dancer: “My most elegant pose? The recycled can!” (which rhymes very nicely in German).

The campaign aims to address existing and new audiences while encouraging them to recycle on Instagram and Facebook and will run until mid of April.
