World Environment Day Celebration in Prague 2 3000 2000 Matina Zavoudaki

On June 5, 2025, Každá plechovka se počítá, our Czech chapter, held a successful celebration of World Environment Day at Náměstí Míru in Prague, Czechia. The event marked another milestone in the ongoing collaboration with Prague 2 Municipality, continuing a valued partnership.

Visitors actively participated in the creation of the six-meter Every Can Counts PixelCan installation depicting a critically endangered polar bear. Participants learned from our team how to correctly sort drink cans and how the recycling process works. To complement the educational aspect, visitors enjoyed tastings of healthy beverages served in aluminium cans, made available through a strategic partnership with The Cans, an innovative Czech company. Ambassadors, identifiable by their green recycling backpacks, efficiently helped people recycle on the go their empty cans throughout the event.

Každá plechovka se počítá presented the results of its own survey to both the media and attendees, sharing insights on the popularity of cans, the most commonly consumed beverages in cans, current can-sorting practices (and challenges), current recycling rates in the Czech Republic, and public opinions on the deposit system. The topic that attracted the most interest from journalists and the general public was the upcoming deposit system for aluminium cans. Since the law on the deposit system will not be passed in this parliamentary term, it is currently a very topical issue, generating rather emotional reactions among both the public and the media.

A special announcement came from Jan Recman, Deputy Mayor for the Environment of Prague 2, who revealed plans for installing a metal heart collection point in Riegrovy Sady. This will remain available until the end of August, strategically placed in one of Prague’s most popular summer recreational areas.

Throughout the event, notable support was received from the media. Tereza Gyurjánová, manager of Každá plechovka se počítá, gave interviews for both radio and television. The partner, Prague 2, also provided strong support, both on social media and through direct involvement at the event.
